The Details
Traumatic experience:
Starting at around 3 years old, Veronica was molested by a female babysitter. Later as an adult, Veronica had to deal with her now ex-husband having raped her oldest daughter.
Effects of the traumatic experience:
Being molested as a child, Veronica felt like she grew up in victim mode and it lowered her self-esteem and made her feel like she wasn't valued. She also felt a lot of shame and struggled with intimacy.
Overcoming the traumatic experience:
Veronica began helping other people and that gave her some tools that she was able to use for herself later on. Prayer and surrounding herself with people who cared about her were most important in her healing. Therapy also helped Veronica along the way as well. In addition to talk therapy, writing has been a very helpful form of therapy for Veronica.
What Veronica does today: Veronica is an author, speaker and advocate.
Final Question:
Given what you know now, if you could go back to when you were going through the tough times and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?
Veronica's Answer: You're not alone and you can get through this.
