The Details
Traumatic experience:
Tensie was bullied from kindergarten through twelfth grade, starting on her very first day of school. The bullying consisted of physical, emotional and verbal attacks.
Effects of the traumatic experience:
Tensie suffered from low self-esteem and was self-conscious about her small size. She was particularly self-conscious about her eyes because they were something that she was made fun of for. She also struggled with being shy.
Overcoming the traumatic experience:
The support of her parents along with putting herself in uncomfortable situations and networking with others in order to increase her self-esteem and confidence have helped Tensie become the person she is today.
What Tensie does today:
Tensie is the Assistant Director of the USC Black Alumni Association as well as a red carpet host.
Final Question:
Given what you know now, if you could go back to when you were going through the tough times and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?
Tensie's Answer: Tell someone sooner and it's okay to defend yourself.
