In this episode of The Grass Gets Greener podcast, I'm joined by Misa Leonessa of Beyond Abuse Radio. Misa joins me to share her story of how she's been able to find a way to thrive after experiencing multiple forms of abuse that left her feeling hopeless and blaming herself for what happened.

The Details
Traumatic experience:
It began when Misa started getting rejected by her family at the age of three after experiencing ritualistic abuse by her grandfather, which changed the way she acted around others. She was later sexually abused by her uncle and brothers. In addition to the sexual abuse, she was bullied by her family and bullied at school.
Effects of the traumatic experience:
Misa became angry and developed a bad self-image and had no self-worth, which left her vulnerable to manipulation by others. She also blamed herself for what happened and didn't take good care of herself.
Overcoming the traumatic experience:
Forgiveness and understanding why others hurt her have been a big component of Misa's healing, along with a relationship with God. The support of her spiritual director has also played a vital role. In addition to these things, being a part of two programs - Life Skills International and Life Model Works Thrive Training - have also helped her to get to where she is today.
What Misa does today:
Misa is a life coach, spiritual director, public speaker, and the creator of a group called Soul Sisters.
Final Question:
Given what you know now, if you could go back to when you were going through the tough times and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?
Misa's Answer: Find someone who can see and accept you for who you are.
