In this episode of The Grass Gets Greener podcast, I'm joined by Leanna Johnson of Lost Lass. Leanna joins me to share her story of how she's been able to heal after an attack that left her dealing with PTSD, and the role that travel has played in all of it.

The Details

Traumatic experience:

While a student in college, Leanna was mugged in an alley at gunpoint outside of her apartment and almost raped.

Effects of the traumatic experience:

Leanna developed PTSD a year after the attack. She experienced dissociative episodes where she saw herself as a few different people; she developed a fear of going places alone and being around strangers; and she had difficulty just going out at all.

Overcoming the traumatic experience:

Identifying triggers and finding ways to mitigate them has helped Leanna along with writing, music and travel. She also tries to rationalize any fear she experiences.

What Leanna does today:

Leanna is a freelance journalist and writer.

Final Question:

Given what you know now, if you could go back to when you were going through the tough times and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?

Leanna's Answer: Get help.
