The Details
Traumatic experience:
Jenny was bullied all throughout her time in school. And the bullying she experienced only got worse over time.
Effects of the traumatic experience:
During the bullying, Jenny felt isolated, alone and powerless. Once the bullying stopped, she was left with a low self-esteem, a negative internal dialogue, a lack of trust in others and worrying about what others thought of her.
Overcoming the traumatic experience:
The turning point for Jenny was when she entered a treatment facility where she took various cognitive behavioral therapy classes. She worked on improving her self-esteem and becoming assertive.
What Jenny does today:
Jenny runs her website at AccessiblePsychology.com where she tries to make psychology accessible and easy to understand for everyone.
Final Question:
Given what you know now, if you could go back to when you were going through the tough times and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?
Jenny's Answer: Work on self-esteem before anything else because it's the foundation for everything.
