The Details
Traumatic experience:
Julie was bullied throughout her years in school because she immigrated to a new country and was seen as an outsider. She was also the victim of an attempted rape. As an adult, she also suffered from a broken back that caused her to significantly change her lifestyle otherwise she was facing the possibility of needing a wheelchair by the age of 30.
Effects of the traumatic experience:
We talk mostly about the effect that the bullying had on Julie. It made her feel different from everyone and she thought that something was wrong with her. She was afraid of being laughed at and still does to this day when she enters a room of people.
Overcoming the traumatic experience:
What really helped Julie was just putting herself out there and forcing herself to make friends with everyone. She just goes up to people in new situations and introduces herself. She's also been able to heal by helping others.
What Julie does today:
Julie is a time hacker. When Julie broke her back she had to find a way to work less hours at her job so that she wouldn't end up in a wheel chair. She started using time hacks and now she teaches others how to hack their time. She has two podcasts. One where she gives quick tips on how to hack time and another where she talks to others about their strategies for hacking time.
Final Question:
Given what you know now, if you could go back to when you were going through the tough times and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?
Julie's Answer: Everything that happens to you is an opportunity to learn something, to be something or someone, and its your choice. You can't choose what happens to you but you can choose what you take away from it and to know that you do have control over something.
