The Details
Traumatic experience:
Rachel was sexually abused by her grandfather for almost a year when she was 10 years old.
Effects of the traumatic experience:
Rachel blamed herself for what happened. The experience made her feel like there was something wrong with her. She also experienced shame, fear, difficulty with relationships and knowing what it meant to be loved and valued, difficulty trusting, and feeling alone and different.
Overcoming the traumatic experience:
Rachel turned to books, therapy and talking with others to help her. What really helped Rachel heal and get to where she is today is studying neuroscience and how the brain is impacted by trauma. This allowed her to take a scientific approach to healing.
What Rachel does today:
Rachel is the owner and founder of Rachel Grant Coaching where she works as a sexual abuse recovery coach. She is also an author and podcaster.
Final Question:
Given what you know now, if you could go back to when you were going through the tough times and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?
Rachel's Answer: Don't worry because all of this is going to help you become someone who gets to heal and help others.
