In this episode of The Grass Gets Greener podcast, I'm joined by Ted Ryce of The Alpha Man Project. Ted joins me to share how he has used his tragic past to figure out who his is and how he can make his life better today.

The Details
Traumatic experience:
Ted has been through a lot. He was abused as a young child by his mother who suffered from mental illness; he lost his mother to a car accident when he was a teen; his brother was kidnapped and murdered and the story became national news; his sister committed suicide; and his step-mother passed away from a heart attack.
Effects of the traumatic experience:
All of these events affected Ted very much. He wasn't able to talk about what happened with his brother because he was afraid that he would be defined by it. He became a troubled teen who got into trouble at school and experimented with drugs. He also became depressed around the time of the murder trial for his brother and wasn't able to go to it.
Overcoming the traumatic experience:
We talk about four things that helped Ted. Those include focusing on health and fitness, challenging himself to do things outside of his comfort zone, serving a higher purpose by helping others, and surrounding himself with a group of people who supported him.
What Ted does today:
Ted is the host of the Alpha Man Project Podcast which focuses on health, fitness and personal development for men. He strives to help men figure out who they are and to become the best version of themselves. He also does coaching so that he can help men on a one-on-one basis to reach their full potential.
Final Question:
Given what you know now, if you could go back to when you were going through the tough times and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?
Ted's Answer: Develop the mindset that things can change and get better, and that you can be happy again but it involves taking action.
